We are pioneers

A large number of facilities and services now run by the state and other organisations were pioneered by Cape Town Child Welfare:
 
  • Maternal and child health clinics, known as Infant Life Bureaus, later taken over by the City Council

  • Remedial and dental clinics

  • A mothercraft training centre / dietetic hospital for nurses which operation until 1975

  • Bonnytoun and Tenderten Places of Safety

  • The Maitland Cottage Hospital

  • Barkley House Training College for pre-primary teachers

  • The Cape Town Child Welfare for Autistic Children as well as clinics for mentally retarded children from which the Cape Mental Health Society developed.
